| Outline of Group/Organization | The society was established in 1939 as "Japanese Association of Snow
and Ice" and reformed to "the Japanese Society of Snow and Ice" in 1955. It promotes the development, dissemination and education on the snow, ice and related cryospheric sciences. It has obtained non-profit corporation status from the Ministry of Education, Science
and Culture (now the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) in 1993.

| News | Annual meeting of the society was held at Hokkaido University on Sept. 29 to Oct. 3, 2009.
Japan Geoscience Union Meeting 2010 will be held at the International Conference Hall of Makuhari Messe on May. The Japanese Society of Snow and Ice organize three sessions of 'Glaciology', 'Cryosphere and Climate' and 'Global Environmental Change by Core Studies ' as well as the General meeting. |
